Whittaker Collection -- Shorncliffe Intermediate Care, Page 1
Mrs.
Jean Whittaker (nee Cook) was the younger daughter of Thomas and Sarah
Cook, pioneer settlers in Sechelt. After her mother's death in 1918
she lived in Calgary with family friends but spent her summers in Sechelt.
When she graduated as a teacher she returned to the Sunshine Coast to
teach in Pender Harbour School. She also helped her husband, Henry Whittaker,
run a resort in Pender Harbour and volunteered for many years with several
organizations. She was active in St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, being
an early member of the Pender Harbour Branch and later of the Sechelt
Branch, a member of the Friends of the Sechelt Public Library, and of
the Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Auxiliary. She died in 2009 at the
age of ninety-seven.
