Philip Sawkins Collection -- Sitka
Spruce Lumber Co., Picnic in Sechelt, 1942, Page 1
Mr. Sawkins' father was employed by the Sitka Spruce
Lumber Co. Ltd. located at False Creek in Vancouver. On July
4, 1942 the employees' annual picnic was held in Sechlet at
the Union Steamship Estates picnic ground on the west side of
Wharf Avenue between Dolphin and Cowrie streets. Mr. Sawkins
remembers traveling annually on Union Steamship vessels to the
company's picnics in various spots, one being up Indian Arm
and another at Sechelt. Mr. Sawkins is in the front row on the
right hand side, a small boy in a white shirt and striped
trousers. He donated this picture on behalf of his mother
Bernice Sawkins.
