Kenneth Walker Collection -- George Walker, Page 2
The
Rev. Kenneth Walker's great-great-uncle, George Henry Walker, came from
England via Australia in the early 1900s to settle at Wilson Creek where
he was the postmaster from 1912 to 1928. He sold some of his land in
1927 to the Girl Guides of Canada and then helped the organization build
and maintain some of Camp Olave's buildings, trails and the water supply.
A portrait of George Walker hangs in the camp's main building. He also
worked for a local logging company. He died in 1951 and is buried in
St. Hilda's Anglican Church cemetery at Sechelt. His widow returned
to Australia.
