        Sandy
Hook, a hilly peninsula jutting out in to Sechelt Inlet's east side,
is located seven kilometres north of Sechelt. For almost forty years,
seventy-three acres of this land was owned and logged by Herman Solberg
until, in the 1960s, he sold it to the Capilano Highlands Development
Company of North Vancouver. This company wasted no time in selling lots
for development. First, cottages were built by and for summer and weekend
visitors but gradually permanent homes appeared and now the majority
of residents live year-round in Sandy Hook. The early residents formed
an association primarily to organize improvements to the water supply.
The first official meeting of the Sandy Hook Association was held in
Burnaby on November 30, 1966 and elected representatives have been meeting
regularly ever since to take care of Sandy Hook residents' concerns.
