Voices of Early Sechelt -- Interviews

Interview by Rosella Leslie.

Alan Wood

March 28, 2002

Alan Wood, one of seven children, was born at home in West Sechelt in 1919. His father had emigrated from England in 1906, served in WW1 and married Alan's mother in England. Back in Canada he was away for months at a time in logging camps or on ships and Alan's mother had a hard time adjusting to rural life in western Canada. Like many during the Depression, from age fifteen Alan worked at whatever job he could find. He was badly hurt while working for Jackson Brothers Logging Company and was off work for a year. He served in WW11 from 1940 until 1945.
