Voices of Early Sechelt -- Interviews

Interview by Rosella Leslie.

Nancy MacLarty

May 16, 2006

Nancy MacLarty, born in 1936, left home in Ottawa at age fifteen and after working in various organizations was hired by the CBC in 1963. She came out to Vancouver in 1968 and worked for various radio stations in Vancouver and Kelowna. An opportunity arose to work for the CBC again in Ottawa and she returned there to work in television as a producer of various shows. Ill health forced her to retire and she and her adopted brother came out to Sechelt. After serving two terms on Sechelt Council, she was elected mayor twice. She also wrote a weekly column for the local newspapers, started the Coast Housing Society and got a group home built for the mentally handicapped.
