A new bird sanctuary (now known as Sechelt Marsh) is created at Porpoise Bay. Sechelt gets a new junior high school (Chatelech) as well as a ' self-serve' liquor store. The road to Port Mellon is paved.

Dear Betty,

First may I offer belated birthday greetings to Mrs. Youngson. Although I thought of your mother on the 16th I have not written any letters for a very long time, which Is a poor excuse. If this does not get in the mail soon, the Post Office people will be on strike for the duration of our collected lives.
