6.3, General, Panoramic Views (1916-1927) (Page 3)
The
photographs in the series show Sechelt's beach, waterfront area, wharf
and buldings from 1900 to 1983 both from land and water. The area
covered stretches from the rocky area to the west of the gravel beach
to the Selma Park waterfront. The photographers include Charles Bradbury,
Edric S. Clayton, Alan Gibbons, Helen McCall, Philip Timms, Harry
Winn and the Sechelt Peninsula Times photographer. Some photographs
are Union Steamship Company pictures. Many of the photographs are
copies from originals in the Vancouver City Archives, Provinicial
Archives and the Vancouver Public Library Collection.

-- Trail Bay Beach Breakwater in the Snow
Breakwater
built of concrete c1926-1927 by Union Steamship Company, destroyed
by storms about 1932. Dance pavilion on right of flag pole was
built by Herbert Whitaker in 1920 and extended by the Union Steamship
Company in 1926. The Bath house (changing room) on middle left
was later converted into various restaurants; Calypso Room, Whispering
Pines and Parthenon, destroyed by fire 1971.

Buildings
along concrete seawall left to right; Whitaker's Beach House (later
Sechelt Inn), cottage #1, bath house (later various restaurants)
and dance pavilion. Picnickers and swimmers, brought by the Union
Steamship Company vessels, are using rental rowboats owned by
the Company.
