unknown -- John Lawrence Gilbert Smith (1873-1945) and his wife
Beatrice. He was a local artist (one of his paintings is in the
Vancouver City Archives) originally from England. He took up land
at Egmont in 1914 on the mainland side of the Inlet. He moved
to Sechelt and lived behind the old library building on Trail
Avenue renting a house from Alice French. He is buried in St.
Hilda's cemetery in Sechelt.

1940s -- An Anglican Church service held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Bill and Frances Howard in Egmont on the mainland side of
the Sechelt Inlet. Back row l-r: Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. ? Johnston,
unnamed daughter of Mrs. West, Mrs. Dorothy Johnston (the Johnston
brothers were loggers in the area), Canon Alan Greene, Frances
Howard, Mrs.West, Beatrice and husband John Lawrence Gilbert Smith,
a local artist.
