1890s
-- John Joseph Nickson emigrated with his wife Jane and family
from England to Victoria, B.C. where he built bridges for the
E. and N. Railway and supervised the construction of the Victoria
Elk Lake waterworks. In 1888 he was appointed Superintendent of
the Vancouver Waterworks and installed the first water system
in Vancouver from Capilano dam to all parts of the city which
included placing the first pipes under the First Narrows. He oversaw
many engineering projects throughout B.C. and Alberta. He retires
to Sechelt circa 1907 and died in 1912

was president of Sechelt Granite Quarries Ltd, 1912-1928.

1917-1918
-- The home of Mrs. Jane Nickson, widow of John Joseph Nickson
on D.L.1384 in Sechelt. The house was named "Rexwood" in memory
of her son John Reginald (Rex) who pre-empted the land in 1912
and died in England in 1918 while training an American pilot.
School teacher, Miss Gladys Tidy occasionally boarded with Mrs.
Jane Nickson.
