early 1930s -- Captain Sam Dawe purchased this house, 3825 West 36th Avenue, Vancouver, in 1929 and sold it in 1952, probably when he moved to Sechelt.

circa 1940 -- Captain Sam Dawe photographed when he was a B.C. Coast Pilot. He was born in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland in 1888 and came with his parents to New Westminster in 1892. He served on a number of ocean going vessels and obtained his Master Mariner (Coastal) Certificate in 1911. After moving to Sechelt he served on Sechelt's first Board of Comissioners in 1956 and was a councilor for eight years.
