1918 -- Hope McQuarrie with Porpoise Bay School teacher Miss Gladys Tidy
at McQuarrie home, "Tranquil Tara". The McQuarrie family came
in 1912 from Maine to Sechelt where father Franklin worked as a logger,
road foreman and school trustee. His son, Arnold, worked for Bert Whitaker
as a store clerk and wagon driver then with the whole family moved to
Powell River around 1917. The McQuarrie property, on the west side of
Porpoise Bay, is still called "Tranquil Tara."
