1930s-1950
Robert Simpson Hackett was hired by Herbert Whitaker in 1924 as an accountant
to run his Sechelt Seaside Resort Company. When Herbert died Robert was
then employed by its successor the Union Estates Limited, part of the
Union Steamship Company, to supervise the store, hotel, dance pavilion,
bath house (later a restaurant), boat and cottage rentals, tennis and
badminton courts and picnic grounds at both Selma Park and Sechelt resorts.
Robert was also Sechelt's postmaster from 1928 until around 1950, he died
in 1951. The photographs are of Mr. and Mrs. Hackett, their son Robert
M. and daughter-in-law Jeanie and other prominent Sechelt residents of
the time.
