Voices of Early Sechelt -- Interviews

Interview by Rosella Leslie.

Peggy Connor

July 3, 2006

Peggy Connor was born in Virden, Manitoba in 1923 and moved with her family to Vancouver in 1934. After leaving school she worked for Consolidated Grocers Cooperation and in her mother's dress shop. In 1956 she married Cliff Connor who had been in the navy prior to working in a gas station in Gibsons. Eventually, he took it over and also the Shell Station in Sechelt, when it became available. Peggy helped in the station and became involved in local politics when, in 1979, she was elected to the Sunshine Coast Regional District as representative for Halfmoon Bay. She served successfully from 1979 to 1982 and 1984 to 1996 and wrote a column for the local newspapers for many years.
