Voices of Early Sechelt -- Interviews

Interview by Rosella Leslie.

Sophia Brackett

April 24, 2002

Sophia Brackett, nee Bell, was born in 1928 and lived on Galiano Island until 1947, a year after her marriage to Lloyd Brackett, when they moved to Halfmoon Bay. Her brother-in-law Earl Laughlin owned a logging company, Logco, which he moved lock stock and barrel, including his fourteen employees, their families and their houses, from Galiano Island to Halfmoon Bay. There she raised her children and was custodian of the school for twenty-five years. Later they moved to the waterfront in Sechelt for about six years and then up to Norwest Bay Road. Lloyd developed allergies to moss and some trees and had to take an inside job. He ran the bar in the Wakefield Inn for many years.
