"Dear Betty" -- Letters from Helen Dawe and Betty Youngson, 1973, Page 4

The first year of correspondence in the collection sets the tone for the decade that followed. Helen updates Betty on the who, what and where of Sechelt. Betty supplies Helen with amusing and interesting details of days past on topics that include the school privy and the cows she avoided on the way to and from school. With encouragement from Helen, Betty's memories of the Sechelt 'jail' are published in the local paper.

Sept. 25, 1973

Dear Helen,

Thanks very much for your most welcome August letter. I purposely delayed answering it until I had been downtown and read the pamphlet and article you spoke of -- and this I did last week.

Oct. 27, 1973

Dear Betty,

It is impossible to tell you how pleased and delighted I am to be the house-mate of one of your beautiful pictures. No way am I going to the grave without enjoying the flowers day by day.

Dec. 11, 1973

Dear Helen,

The time I have taken to answer your letter has nothing to do with the pleasure it brought me.
